Embattled Auckland Mayor Len Brown’s extramarital affair is endangering his mayoral position and the trust of his constituents, but there’s one thing he can count on: his daughters’ support.

On Tuesday, Whaleoil.co.nz blog exposed Mr Brown’s two-year affair with former council advisory board member Bevan Chuang. Hours later, the 57-year-old politician then appeared on the TV3 program “Campbell Live” to ask for privacy for his family.

He is married with three daughters to lawyer Shan Inglis.

Although the newly re-elected mayor is determined not to step down from his position, there’s public pressure for him to disclose whether or not he has misused public funds during his affair.

His daughters, however, have no doubt that their father was a good public servant.

Writing on the New Zealand Herald on behalf of her sisters Olivia and Victoria, Samantha Brown said she and her sisters are still proud of their dad despite his shortcoming.

“We stand by our father today more than ever before,” Ms Brown began. “We have given our father to the community for a 24 hours, 7 day a week job. At times this has been really hard and we have missed the things that normal families do and time spent together.

“Dad has given, and will continue to give, his all to this job and serve the people and community with a passion of 100 per cent.”

She added that Mr Brown’s affair scandal is a personal issue, arguing that her father was “not elected as a husband or father but as a man who could serve the people of Auckland.”

Though Ms Brown has not mentioned how his affair affected their family, or if at all, she concluded that she and her sisters are “so proud to call him our dad.”

Ms Brown is the eldest and only adult daughter of the beleaguered mayor. She is followed in age by Olivia and then Victoria.
