David Beckham Transfers to Saint Germain, Donates Salary to Charity
After weeks of being photographed on the streets, seemingly frustrated, it has been revealed that David Beckham signed up for a contract with Paris Saint Germain, but the catch is, he's playing for free.
The football superstar, David Beckham, has signed a five-month deal with Paris Saint Germain. But although he agrees with an almost $240,000 pay per week, the football superstar has decided to donate all of his earnings to a charity in Paris.
It can be said that it's a first in football history that a player decided to play free for a team. If you have a superstar like Beckham onboard, then expect to pay for good price.
The 37-year-old football star confirmed his transfer on Thursday during a press conference in Paris. David revealed his big move to the team and why he decided to pursue his philanthropic advocacy.
"For me it's always been about playing football, I considered other offers on the table. But one of the reasons I wanted to come to Paris was quite unique," Beckham said. "We've decided my salary will go towards a local children's charity in Paris and that's one of the things we're very excited and proud to be able to do. I'm not sure it's been done before but it's something I'm very passionate about."
Regarding speculations that this might be Beckham's last contract, he dismissed the idea and said that football will always be his passion.
"People have been speculating about that for a number of years, but I continue to play and sign contracts. I will see how I feel but I want to play as long as possible. My passion is football. It always has been. When I play football it is not about the biggest contract," he answered.
But in a question whether his wife, Victoria Beckham and his children will also move to Paris throughout his contract with Saint Germain, David said that it's not likely since his kids are enrolled in London.
"I am excited it's something that we've been talking about for quite a while and now it's finally happened. My wife and children will be staying in London because the children go to school there now," David explained.
Meanwhile, Victoria definitely gave full support for her husband. She expressed her pride in David's intention to help a children's charity in Paris. She said she is looking forward to spend some time with the children and Beckham in one of the world's fashion capital and probably look for some fashion inspiration for her clothing line.
With David's confirmation about being signed to Saint Germain, expect other news transfers to be revealed in the coming days. People are still keeping an eye on the Arsenal and Manchester United transfers.
