Now, luxury enthusiasts do not need to leave the comfort of their homes in snatching those designer goods sitting on store shelves as they too have found their way on monitor screens, all for the taking with the use of some finger strokes by Aussie shoppers.

Using their credit card, shoppers can now mouse their way through myriad of goods as high-end retailer David Jones Ltd launched on Thursday its online store with a bevy of more than 1500 products as initial offering.

That department store on your computer screen brings home beauty, fragrance and body care products along with accessories for both men and women.

Also in time for the holiday shopping, David Jones customers could now do their window shopping for Christmas hampers, toys, cookwares, pocketbooks and even small appliances.

David Jones chief executive Paul Zahra said that the company's new medium of shopping was geared for those who do not have much time to spend visiting its stores as he added that "our online store offers an alternate way to shop with not only the convenience of one easy transaction but also a one-stop flexible shopping experience."

Mr Zahra said that the service comes with reliable delivery and gift wrapping options and shoppers can expect delivery of their orders within one business day across Australia.

Emphasising the onset of the holiday season, David Jones said that its new option of online trade was deliberately unveiled just in time for the expected onslaught of Christmas shopping.

For starters, Mr Zahra beamed that "the online merchandise has been carefully handpicked with Christmas gift giving in mind,' stressing that David Jones only saw it fitting that the festive season marked the start of the retailer's online offering.
