Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Rules the Charts at the Box Office

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" reportedly made over $240 million and remains at the top at the weekend box office. The movie is followed closely by "The Purge: Anarchy" and "Planes: Fire and Rescue." The movie "Sex Tape" ranked a distant fourth.

Making more that $36 million at the weekend box office "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" retained its top spot. According to a report by Box Office Mojo, the movie has made a total collection of over $240 million worldwide.

"The Purge: Anarchy" followed close behind with a $30 million debut at the weekend box office. Most of the earnings of the movie came from the U.S market. The movie reportedly made over $29 million in the U.S and collected over $420,000 from the international market.

"Planes: Fire and Rescue" came in third at the weekend box office. The movie reportedly made over $17 million in the U.S and over $9 million from the international market. The total collection of the movie stood at over $26 million.

Another highly anticipated movie "Sex Tape" made over $17 million at the box office. The movie starring Cameron Diaz was able to collect over $14 million in the U.S market and over $3 million from the international market.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" marks the beginning of the ape civilization on planet earth. The movie continues the story of the ape Caesar and his band of apes as they try to build a new home and maintain a fragile peace with the humans. The eventual war between the humans and the apes will determine who will be the dominant species on the planet.

"The Purge: Anarchy" is based in Los Angeles where an annual ritual called "the Purge" allows the people to go on a rampage without restrictions. The plot of the movie follows a young couple who have to survive the night on the day of the purge after their car breaks down.

"Planes: Fire and Rescue" continues the story of Dusty, the crop dusting plane who realized his dream as a racing plane in the previous movie. In the new movie Dusty finds that his engine is damaged and he can never race again. He will join a fire and rescue team to stop a massive wildfire.

The upcoming movies that "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" will need to compete at the box office include "Hercules," "Lucy," "The Fluffy Movie," "A Most Wanted Man," "Magic in the Moon Light" and "Very Good Girls."
