'Dead' Baby Wakes at China Funeral Parlour Before Cremation
A Chinese baby boy who was declared dead was saved from being cremated alive when he woke up and cried at the funeral parlour. The parents of the less than one month old boy who was critically-ill had decided to stop his medical treatment at the Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital in eastern China after a month of treatment.
The baby boy's death certificate was issued before he was sent to Hefei, the provincial capital, only to alert the staff by crying. Shanghaiist.com did not report how long the boy had already been at the funeral parlour or when his cremation was scheduled.
The baby was sent back to the hospital immediately because he still had life signs. The hospital continued to give him transfusion to maintain life, only for humanitarian reasons. He was born with severe deformities and a congenital respiratory system malformation. He is still receiving treatment at the hospital on Nov. 20. The boy remained in critical condition in the hospital. His doctor has been suspended, his medical license revoked, while his nurse was laid off as the hospital launched an investigation of the incident.
People have been expressing their rage on the Internet, blaming both the baby boy's parents and the doctors involved. They ask for the parents to be sentenced to jail for five years for abandonment. People also say doctors are irresponsible, simply treating patients' lives without showing sincere care for the thorough well-being of the people.
