Dead Body Found Near ‘Avengers 2’ Filming Venue In South Korea
A dead body has been found during the production of “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” in South Korea. The highly anticipated superhero flick sequel closed the Mapo Bridge in Seoul for filming when the body of a still-unknown person has been found floating in the water.
The bridge, a notorious suicide spot in the city, was closed to traffic from 6:00 am to 5:30 pm for the production of the film, which began on March 30. As Kotaku noted, it is the first time the Mapo Bridge has been shut down to accommodate a movie.
Security was tight on set, with over a hundred private security guards, 160 police officers, and numerous volunteers on standby.
A security guard reportedly discovered the body floating in the water during the weekend around 2:15 pm while the shoot was going on. The police was called to retrieve the corpse, which they estimated to be around two weeks old.
Naver has posted photos of the bridge during the filming.
Before the filming started, director Joss Whedon has released an apology video to South Koreans.
“I’m really grateful and excitement to be filming in your city. We are going to mess it up a bit and inconvenience some for a few days, and I apologise for that,” Whedon said.
“I hope that it will be worth it. We love this movie and we love your city. And having the two of them together will show the cities of the world in a light that I don’t think it has been shown, certainly not in America.”
“The Avengers: Age of Ultron” is a follow-up to the mega hit “The Avengers” (2012), which took in over USD1.5 billion at the box office.
It still stars Marvel superheroes from the first film, such as Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr).
Adding to the line-up are Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor, who will play the twins Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch respectively. James Spader also stars as Ultron.
It is slated for May 1, 2015 release.
