'Deadpool 2' release date to hit theatres in June 2018
A release date for “Deadpool 2” has finally been confirmed. The upcoming film starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character is slated to have a June 1, 2018 release. An Australian release date has yet to be announced, but fans in the USA now have a target date to look forward to at this point in time.
First reported by Deadline, the release date for the “Deadpool” sequel initially saw a June 29 launch. This was later bumped up to the beginning of June 2018, which means fans will get to see the “merc with a mouth” much earlier than anticipated. The first “Deadpool” film first hit theatres on February 11 of last year. Besides Reynolds as the film’s main character, the movie also starred Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Ed Skrein as Ajax, T.J. Miller as Weasel and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al.
It was previously reported that the forthcoming sequel would have Uggams reprising her role as Blind Al, Deadpool’s roommate. On the other hand, the next “Deadpool” movie will also be joined by actor Josh Brolin, who was added to the cast as Cable. News of Brolin being cast as Cable marks the actor's first appearance in a contract of four films within the “X-Men” film series. The film finally having their Cable also puts to rest other rumours of who would be portraying the character, as other names had been previously attached to the role.
Known for his roles in “Soldado,” “The Legacy of the Whitetail Deer Hunter” and “Granite Mountain,” Brolin can also be remembered for making appearances as another Marvel character: Thanos, an antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While Brolin appearing in both the MCU and a “Deadpool” film might seem problematic for some — seeing as the latter’s film franchise is owned by 20th Century Fox — Marvel head Kevin Feige made sure to clear the waters by stating that Brolin’s appearance in both franchises posed as no issue at all.
“We don’t have anything written into our contracts about other roles that people can do,” Feige said to The Hollywood Reporter. “Indiana Jones and Han Solo are the same person … it hasn’t been a problem. And I think Thanos and Cable are two very different characters.”
With the “Deadpool 2” release date now in the horizon, it will only be a matter of time before other updates on the film will surface. More bits and pieces on the movie’s cast — or maybe even release dates for other regions — will be revealed in due time.
