‘The Defenders’ season 1 spoilers, update: Matt still mourns Elektra’s death; Cox speaks his heart out
“Daredevil” season 2 finale saw the tragic death of Matt Murdock’s college sweetheart Elektra Natchios while battling with the Hand, an ancient warrior group. It has been revealed Natchios’ death will continue to haunt him even after he has joined “The Defenders.”
“Daredevil” Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is all set to return in Marvel’s “The Defenders” season 1. He will meet other superhuman entities and will be forming a group with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). Actress Sigourney Weaver will be an “utter badass,” a role complementing her sophisticated, intellectual and dangerous persona.
With nothing to lose, the blind superhero in a red suit will be seen deadlier and more revengeful than ever. Murdock took the death of Elektra very badly, Cox himself had revealed to Entertainment Weekly. “One of Matt’s big things is trying to protect the people he loves, which is why he keeps his identity hidden, and he’s failed,” Cox said, talking on the despair Murdock will face in the upcoming “The Defenders” season 1.
In “The Defenders” season 1, the mask-bearing vigilante will be seen lost and brutally affected by his girlfriend’s death. He will also question himself if he should really continue to be the watchdog that he indeed is. But then again he is the “Daredevil.” He will be forced to come out of his rut. As Cox had put it, “[f]rom what we’ve shot so far, [The Defenders] want to genuinely make a difference and help people out.”
In other news, Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones were seen in a tweet, covered in a blanket of snow. While the sightless vigilante wasn’t in his red costume, the latter kept her signature black leather jacket. It's not clear if the pictures are from "The Defenders" shoot in New York City or if it were the duo just socialising after work. Nonetheless, it was a sight to witness the stars together. Luke Cage and Iron Fist were nowhere to be seen.
"The Defenders" season 1 is expected to debut later this year. Also, Matt Murdock's solo venture, Marvel’s “Daredevil” season 3, is set to premiere sometime in 2018. A new season for "Jessica Jones" solo is also expected to release in late 2018. "Luke Cage" will be getting a brand new series. Meanwhile, "Iron Fist" is set to premiere March 17 this year on Netflix.
