Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore are cutting their losses and calling it quits.

Moore released a statement confirming the divorce rumours that have been dogging the couple in the recent months.

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation," the actress said in her statement.

Kutcher also tweeted about the impending divorce on Thursday.

"I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and Light, AK," the "Two and a Half Men" star tweeted.

The pair have been married since 2005 and despite the age difference (Moore is 49; Kutcher, 33) have seemed to be one of the strongest couples in Hollywood. So strong that the "Indecent Proposal" actress adopted her husband's tweeting hobby and even chose @MrsKutcher to be her twitter name-in the age of internet infamy, that's commitment.

In the previous months, Kutcher has been taking to his favourite micro blogging site to dispel the separation rumours by tweeting cryptic and timely messages like "When you ASSUMME to know that which you know nothing of you make an ASS out of U and ME." Moore, on the other hand, has not been on the networking platform through this whole time, not even to change the now unfortunate handle.
