The International Press Academy has named "The Descendants" the Best Picture of 2011 in its Satellite Awards.

The Hawaii-set drama by Alexander Payne starring George Clooney has surely made an impact but not enough impact to let their lead role take home the award for Best Actor. Ryan Gosling won that title for his "killer" looks and role in the film "Drive." Other actors who were up for the award were Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Apart from winning best actor, "Drive's" Nicolas Winding Refn also took home the award for Best Director. "Drive" also took honors for its sound mixers and editors plus another honor for Albert Brooks (Best Supporting Actor).

"The Help" grabbed the award for Best Actress for Viola Davis while "Tree of Life's" Jessica Chastain won Best Supporting Actress. That film also won Best Original Screenplay for director Terrence Malick.

Already leading in Oscar speculation, "The Artist" won one award for Best Art and Production Design. The Best Documentary award went to "Senna" while Best Animated Movie went to Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin." As for the best television documentary series, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia manages to bring home the award.

The awards night was held at the Beverly Hills Hotel Sunday. The Satellite Awards hand out awards for only eight categories with 10 nominees each.

For those who haven't watched any of the films mentioned above, now would be a good time to do so.
