Even though Amir Khan refused to face Devon Alexander, Alexander is reportedly still open to fighting the British boxer. Alexander and Khan were supposedly to clash in December when Khan suddenly back out in hopes that he will be able to score a fight against Mayweather.

For a long while, Khan is believed to be the top contender in Mayweather's May 3 fight until Marcos Maidana's name came into the picture. Khan's reveries of fighting Mayweather became murkier when the undefeated boxer launched a poll asking the fans to vote for his next opponent. All the boxing fans who have been following Mayweather's crazy antics concerning his next fight know, Khan won the poll but for some reasons, Mayweather chose to go for Maidana.

Khan has officially released his statement regarding the unfortunate turn of events and stated that he is still looking forward to fight this May. He is expected to announce his opponent in the few days as soon as his team had figured out the best path to take following Khan's downfall as Mayweather's next opponent.

Should Khan really look for other opponents now that Alexander has expressed his interest and openness to still fight him? When Khan dropped his fight against Alexander, the former World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) light welterweight champion fought and lost to Shawn Porter.

"Well, it could've been me and Amir Khan in December but he gambled with the Floyd fight and now he is out of luck," Alexander told World Boxing News.

"Even though he ditched me for Mayweather, I still would fight him because he is a good name on my resume and we both need to fight," he added.

Alexander is currently 25-2. He lost his IBF welterweight title to Porter via unanimous decision in December. His team are currently still on the lookout regarding his next fight. According to Alexander's trainer, Kevin Cunningham, they are also amenable to the idea of a potential clash with Andre Berto and Zab Judah, the Boxing Scene reported.

"If I had a choice for Devon's next fight, it would be Zab Judah in St. Louis or Berto anywhere," said Cunningham. He added, "Those are the two fights that would make a lot sense for Devon."
