Jenna Talackova was the first ever transgender to compete in the Miss Universe Canada, but amidst all the controversies and her pursuit of the crown, did she win the competition?

The 23-year-old transgender competed with 61 other contestants vying for the crown of Miss Universe Canada. She battled it out with rest of contestants in front of a panel consisting of 15 judges.

Talackova who was born a male in Vancouver, British Columbia, underwent sex change four years ago. Last March, she was denied entry to the pageant even after making it as finalist because she was not a natural-born female. After a series of protests over the issue, Donald Trump overruled the decision and Jenna was then allowed to once again bid for the Miss Universe Canada title.

The 6'11" hopeful contestant made it to the final 12 announced last Saturday. But much to her dismay, she didn't make it to the top 5. Although her efforts fall short, she didn't go home empty handed. Talackova was awarded Miss Congeniality together with 4 other contestants.

"She's still a winner as far as I'm concerned, Gloria Allred, Talackova's high-profile attorney said during the pageant, according to the Associated Press. "She won an 'herstoric' civil rights victory and that I think is frankly more important than anything, any victory she would win, even representing Miss Canada."

26-year-old Sahar Biniaz won the crown and will advance to the Miss Universe competition in December.
