Could the Dallas Mavericks land hometown boy LaMarcus Aldridge after the 2014-2015 NBA Season? For Dallas veteran star Dirk Nowitzki, it’s a prospect he’s excited about saying that a frontcourt featuring him and Alrdidge could work despite the similar games between the two high-scoring power forwards.

“I think I’ve showed in my career that I can play with anybody in this league,” Nowitzki said via dallasnews.com when asked about the possibility of playing with Aldridge in 2015. “In some situations, he’s playing the five when they go small.”

With the 2014-2015 NBA season just underway, it’s all but speculations for Aldridge’s future in the league. However, scribes and fans can’t stop wondering about the probable destinations for the star power forward as he has an expiring contract with his current team, the Portland Trail Blazers.

For Dallas’ part, they will do due diligence since they have a big cap space opening up with their own expiring contracts particularly that of Tyson Chandler, who was re-acquired in the offseason in a trade with the New York Knicks. Dallas has their core line-up intact for 2015 and beyond, with Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons and Monta Ellis all still under contract for Dallas.

Either as a rival or a probable teammate in the future, Nowitzki respects Aldridge’s game. The Portland power forward averages 22.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists in five games thus fur this season but his boards rate is expected to spike up as the season moves along.

“LaMarcus is up there with the best,” Nowitzki said in the same article. “He’s shooting it all the way out to 3 now, and he’s a beast on the block. He’s a really tough matchup for the whole league.”

A possible Nowitzki-Aldridge pairing is possible in 2015 but for this year they will play on opposite ends and will battle each other as rivals. Both the Mavericks and Trail Blazers are expected to make the 2015 season.

If ever Aldridge decides to stay in Portland, the Mavericks can target other potential free agents in 2015. The likes of Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio Spurs), Marc Gasol (Memphis Grizzlies), Goran Dragic (Phoenix Suns), Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics), DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers) and Greg Monroe (Detroit Pistons) are all probable Mavericks signings.
