Disability Groups Disapprove Lady Gaga's Wheelchair Stint During her Sydney Concert [PHOTOS]
The singer known to use many props to elevate her performances was attacked by several disability groups after dragging herself in a wheelchair during her Sydney concert last July 13.
The Judas and Born This Way singer's stunt of using wheelchairs for "shock value" has left several disability groups angry and agitated. The singer used the wheelchairs for her song You and I during July 13th's Sydney Monster Ball, just like she used a wheelchair for the music video of her hit Paparazzi. Some might think it's a harmless stunt, but a majority of disability advocates think otherwise.
"Dear @ladygaga how about using your celebrity status 2 try 2 get us out of wheelchairs instead of cruising one. Cool?!" tweeted Roman Reed, a member and lobbyist of the Research on Spinal Cord group. The founder of Life Rolls On, a quadriplegic advocacy group wasn't too amused either. Jesse Billauer talked to Radar Online and says "Since this isn't the first time she has used a wheelchair in her performances, I invite her to learn more about the 5.6 million Americans who live with paralysis" in a report posted on The Daily Telegraph. "They like me, unfortunately, don't use a wheelchair for shock value", continues Billauer in the same report.
Meanwhile, the singer exclaimed in an interview that she is "willing" to give away her $100 million USD fortune if "she had the chance." I was driven by recognition by showbiz. What does come along with showbiz is recognition, but the money goes right back into the show. If I had to give it all away, every dollar that I've earned, I would" said the singer in a post by The Sun. Fans are already saying that the singer should donate it to disability groups as a form of apology for her reckless use of wheelchairs.
