DJ Mehdi, doing what he loved

Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, better known as DJ Mehdi, died in a tragic accident during a party at his Parisian home. The celebrated electro and hip-hop producer was only 34 years-old and leaves behind his wife, Fafi.

The Parisian producer had been holding a party in the honour of Riton, another DJ with whom Mehdi had collaborated with under the name 'Carte Blanche'. Mehdi and a group of friends were on a mezzanine of his Parisian home when the floor gave way, fatally injuring Mehdi and injuring three others.

Part of the illustrious Ed Banger Records collective, he was considered one of the elite producers in his genre and had remixed artists such as Miike Snow, Sam Sparro and Architecture in Helsinki. He was a prolific producer who also composed his own works. Mehdi has a stellar list of artists with which he had collaborated, including Daft Punk and Cassius.

Mehdi played last year's Parklife and had been due to return to Australia for Summadayze and Summafieldayze next year but now will be sadly missed.

Once the tragic news had spread, the dedications began pouring in, including many artists who had worked with or encountered Mehdi.

Canadian electro-funk duo Chromeo, one of Mehdi's collaborators tweeted: "We lost our brother. No words"

Electro-house and hip-hop DJ, A-Trak had this to say on his Twitter: "I have no words. My heart is completely shattered. Not this"

The endless stream of warm words regarding the man goes to show that DJ Mehdi will not only be missed as a musician and producer but as a man.
