MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - - Serbian ace World No. 3 Novak Djokovic has kept his word to play with ‘nothing-to-lose attitude' taking down his ominous nemesis, Swiss World No. 2 Roger Federer 7-6 (3), 7-5, 6-4 in the Australian Open semifinals at the Rod Laver Arena Thursday.

This is the second straight time for Djokovic to defeat Federer in the major title, allowing him to advance and wait for the final match Sunday. The Swiss maestro lost with match points to Djokovic in the U.S. Open semi-finals last year.

The Guardian said Federer could have beaten Djokovic in the first set had he not played passively in the tie-break. The World No. 3 of Serbia attacked Federer aggressively and continued to deliver a convincing performance until the second set.

Federer was behind Djokovic trailing 2-1 and 30-40 on the Serbian’s serve. The Guardian noted that Federer took his chance to overpower the Serb when a stray feather distracted the game and Djokovic’s concentration, breaking his game with eight points in a row to go 5-2 up.

But Djokovic, who came to the court up for the big fight strengthened his moves, hitting directly and without giving Federer a chance to retaliate with the same energy. The defending champion’s energy level has noticeably decreased at the time he was able to take the set.

The two gave the thousands of patrons at the Rod Laver Arena the promised ‘great shot-making’ they create in the dogfight in the third set. Federer again failed to edge his way as Djokovic displayed stronger power going to the line.

The Serbian’s victory according to John Pye of the Associated Press marks the first battle in a Grand Slam final without the top two aces in tennis. World No. 1 Rafael Nadal failed to reach the final as his left hamstring brought him down in a semi-final match with friend and fellow Spanish seventh seeded David Ferrer.
