Those who tuned into the show witnessed one of the most mysterious doctors of "Doctor Who" making a return to the screen in a new adventure. The episode revealed what became of the eighth doctor played by Paul McGann.

The episode shows what happens when Paul McGann returns to the Tardis and hints at the involvement of John Hurt's character. And the final scenes come as a surprise as it shows how Paul Mcgann became Hurt, "The War Doctor."

"The Night of the Doctor" begins with the surprise return of the 8th doctor where McGann can be seen assisting a pilot to make an escape from the tumbling spaceship. But she refuses to take any help and enter Tardis as she accuses him and other Timelords of causing the war against the Daleks. And the plane crashes on planet Karn.

Back on Karn, he is told to join the Time War by a cult of women there on the planet. But he chooses to become a warrior and then regenerates into John Hurt.

The scenes confirm that John Hurt is the incarnation of the secret Doctor between eighth and ninth doctor.
