During its 50th anniversary 'Doctor Who' is bringing oh-so-ever thrilling storylines for its fans. First, 'Doctor Who' fans were treated with a beatifying 50th anniversary special episode "The Day of the Doctor" and now they will be witnessing yet another special episode during Christmas period. "Doctor Who" 2013 Christmas special has been titled "The Time of the Doctor." And BBC recently released its teaser trailer and synopsis. 'Doctor Who' Christmas special is going to add to the thrill and joy of the festive season as it is suggested by the latest spoilers and report.

"The Christmas Special is a really spectacular episode. It's a tough act to follow on from the 50th anniversary but we think this has cracked it," a source revealed to The Sun.

5 Things to Expect in 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special- 'The Time of the Doctor'

1. In store, for the Whovians are more regenerations of Doctor Who. Peter Capaldi will regenerate into the next generation doctor. According to The Mirror, creator Steven Moffat has confirmed that Peter Capaldi is the 13th Doctor Who. "The 12 regenerations limit is a central part of Doctor Who mythology - science fiction is all about rules, you can't just casually break them. So if the Doctor can never change again, what's Peter Capaldi doing in the Christmas special?" told show's creator Steven Moffat to The Mirror.

2. According to reports by The Sun, in this episode things are going to get heated up as Daleks, Cybermen, The Silence, Weeping Angels and Trenzalore all are going to make a return in the plot. Weeping Angels, Daleks and Cybermen will put forth deadly challenges for the Doctor and Clara his assistance.

3. Matt Smith's Doctor Who will lose a leg in the episode as he has suffered a leg injury in real life too. As reported by The Sun the accident took place while shooting for the episode, following which the creators decided to incorporate his leg injury in their script. 11th Doctor Who will lose his leg when he will be attacked by Weeping Angels.

4. According to The Sun, the war against the villains including Weeping Angels, Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen will be as long as 300 years.

5. According to reports, "The Time of the Doctor" will answer all the questions that were left unanswered in "The Day of the Doctor" episode. The mystery of cracks in time that were seen in the 50th Anniversary special caused by Time Lords.

The official plot of 'Doctor Who' Christmas episode "The Time of the Doctor" as revealed by the BBC reads: "Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them - the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe."
