Peter Capaldi is leaving the show for good soon. He shares his thoughts in saying goodbye in “Doctor Who” and admitted what he would miss most in the show.

Capaldi is currently filming the series’ season 10. By the time he finished filming his last season plus a Christmas special, the actor would have played the Doctor in three instalments like his predecessors David Tennant and Matt Smith. For Capaldi, he already played the character the best that he could.

“I was not sure how long you could keep doing this and be doing your best. My fear was that if I went on, I’d end up phoning it in. Because there’s so little preparation time, you’re mostly flying by the seat of your pants — which is exciting, but I worried I might not be able to keep on doing it as well as I’d like to,” Capaldi told the Sunday Times.

He added that he would miss working with the crew. Earlier this year, Capaldi announced he would be retiring as the Doctor. He thanked BBC and the show’s crew for the opportunity of playing the iconic character.

Meanwhile, Capaldi also defended “Doctor Who” executive producer Steven Moffat against critics. The actor said he can’t understand why people called Moffat a “misogynist.”

Capaldi believed that Moffat is a great writer and echoes the EP’s comment about the show’s low budget. The showrunner received backlash recently after suggesting that budget limitation held back the show to reach its full potential. Moffat said that although the series has a pretty good budget, its resources are smaller in comparison with shows that look less funded.

“The fact of the matter is any show that’s making 12 episodes a year, with these budgets and under these circumstances, not every [episode] is going to be fantastic. And certainly not every [episode] is going to be to everyone’s tastes,” Capaldi tells SFX (via RadioTimes).

Moffat is also leaving the hit show the same time as Capaldi. “Broadchurch” creator Chris Chibnall is stepping in as Moffat’s replacement.

As to who will fill Capaldi’s shoes, BBC has yet to make any announcement. Pearl Mackie will be introduced as Bill Potts, the Doctor's newest travelling companion, in the tenth season.

“Doctor Who” season 10 will premiere on April 15 in BBC One in the UK, BBC America in the US and in Australia’s ABC TV. A special cinema screening is also scheduled on select theatres in Australia on April 16.
