‘Doctor Who’, ‘Sherlock’ Crossover Episode ‘Not’ Happening, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman Are Killjoy [VIDEO]
The fans of BBC's two hugely popular shows, "Doctor Who" and "Sherlock," have been highly anticipating a crossover episode. However, it looks like this crossover episode is not happening, not today and not in the near future.
Steven Moffat, who is the writer on both "Sherlock" and "Doctor Who," has said that he wants to do Doctor meets Sherlock episode but "Sherlock" actors Benedict Cumberbatch [Sherlock] and Martin Freeman [Dr Watson] are acting like "killjoy."
"Look I'm going to come clean on this: I would [want to do a crossover episode]. Go speak to Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Mark Gatiss and Sue Vertue, OK? They're all in the way. I'm not the killjoy, it's that lot. It's probably not going to happen," Independent quoted Moffat as saying at a Question & Answer Session.
Co-creator of "Sherlock," Mark Gatiss, believes that Doctor and Sherlock are better-off in their own shows, and their meeting should take place just in the imagination, not in an episode. Moffat agrees to that. He said, as quoted by Independent, "... in some ways, I think Mark has got a point when he says that however good you imagine [the crossover], it would be almost better in your imagination than it would be if the two grand old egotists actually met."
"They'd just both go off in opposite corners and sulk that there was someone cleverer than them."
Meanwhile, the production on "Sherlock" Season 4 is slated to begin sometime in the latter half of 2015. In addition to the three episodes of the new season, there is a one-off special episode, as well, which is expected to air on Christmas 2015. The filming of this special episode is scheduled to start in January 2015.
And, the science fiction series "Doctor Who" Season 8 is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, August 24. The premiere episode is titled "Deep Breath." Recently, BBC released a secret video trailer of the episode.
