Doing Porn is Empowering, Says Female Duke University Student
Many porn stars use screen names when appearing on triple X-rated flicks. Although their faces and different private parts of their anatomy are exposed for the whole world to see, their real names often remain unknown until they become too old or get rich and eventually retire from the porn industry.

One young female porn star, who also is a freshman at Duke University, boldly admits her job when people recognise her and ask if it was her (or was it her body) which they saw on a porn movie.
"I am not ashamed of porn. On the contrary, doing pornography fulfills me. That said, I vehemently want to have my privacy respected - and I ask that anyone who knows my real name respect the fact that I am only discussing this publicly because it was made a public matter when I was confronted by a fraternity member who chose to tell hundreds of other men in the Greek scene," the female porn actress told Xojane.com.
She explained that she agreed to shed off her clothes because her family went through a major financial problem and she wanted to acquire a university degree from her dream school that charges $60,000 tuition fee.

When asked how would having a degree help her find a decent job in the future, given her porn background, the student said, "I wouldn't want to work for someone who discriminates against sex workers."
She agreed to be interviewed by the student newspaper at Duke to clarify about her job and speak about the abuses inflicted on people like her employed in the sex trade.
She said she was employed by a rough sex Web site, not a rape fantasy porn Web site, and she is not forced or harmed while filming the sex scenes. "Everything I did was consensual. I also stand by and defend the right of adult performers to engage in rough sex porn," she insisted.

But at the same time, she admitted some women don't have a positive experience in the industry. While saying society should listen to them, there is a need to take away the stigma linked to being a porn star by treating it as a legitimate needing regulation and oversight.
Unabashedly, she proclaimed, "For me, shooting pornography brings me unimaginable joy. When I finish a scene, I know that I have done so and completed an honest day's work. It is my artistic outlet: my love, my happiness, my home."
She has come a long way from her childhood days when she was told that sex is degrading and shameful act. At age 5, while exploring her body, her mum scared her that masturbating would cause her vagina to fall off.
She said that she has no plans to quit the porn industry until she acquires her university degree and pursue her other dreams, while hoping to be an agent of change "in a world wrought with gender norms and sexism."
