'Downton Abbey' movie officially confirmed
After months of waiting the announcement has finally come. The popular TV series “Downton Abbey” is being made into a movie. Focus Features will be making the film along with Carnival Films.
According to a report by ComingSoon, Julian Fellows will be returning to write the script of the film. Fellows was the showrunner of the TV series. Brian Percival, who directed six episodes of the show along with the premiere, will be directing the movie.
All the principal cast members will reportedly come together once again to make this movie. The full list of the cast members may be released when the production starts.
An exact start date for the production hasn’t been announced yet. The cameras are expected to begin rolling for the project later this summer. The plot of the film is also being kept under wraps at this point in time.
The “Downton Abbey” TV series followed the lives of the members of the Crawley family and their servants, who lived in their huge estate mansion. The show focused on the personal lives of both the members of the family and the servants, living through changing times.
The TV series ended with just six short seasons. Over the years the show was able to win multiple awards, including the Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy, and BAFTA.
Ever since the TV series ended, there was tremendous interest in the fan base for a film based on the show. The producers were also keen on making a movie, and now they finally have their chance.
The script of the film is ready. Producer Gareth Neame has read the script and had some positive things to say about it and how the project is in safe hands with Percival.
“Julian’s script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival’s hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen,” Neame said.
