“Downton Abbey” stars have been told not to gain weight. They were apparently been told by ITV bosses to lose pounds so that they can fit in their costumes.

As The Sun reported, show creator Julian Fellowes said that the actors themselves have asked for the catering to cut back on the food so they don’t outgrow their costumes.

There are sandwiches laid out for the cast and crew on set, but since the cast were told not to gain weight, they are careful not to consume snacks during shooting.

“The feeling is there’s not a better egg sandwich in England,” Julian was quoted by the UK tabloid as saying. “But the cast have asked to cut down on supplies so they can’t be tempted.

“Between takes and reshoots some actors were munching through a loaf’s worth of sarnies.”

Rob James-Collier, who plays footman Thomas Barrow, added, “The biggest challenge is keeping the weight off between scenes.”

While fans have been disappointed and upset in the past when characters are killed in the show, Julian assured them that the show will not follow the path of “Game of Thrones,” in which their main characters are massacred almost every week.

“There will not be someone coming in with a machine gun. I can’t see it. Every show has its own rules and as long as you stick to those rules you do not disappoint,” Express quoted him as saying.
