It was rumoured a week ago that Jared Leto will play Marvel’s Dr. Stephen Strange in the movie adaptation of “Dr. Strange.” However, reports are now pointing at two other possible candidates, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy, which made Twitter fans excited.

"Dr. Strange" now has Scott Derrickson as director. But the hunt is still ongoing for the perfect actor to portray the role of Dr. Stephen Strange. It was recently rumoured that "30 Seconds to Mars" frontman Jared Leto will play the role. Now Deadline reports Marvel is putting together its cast list and is also looking at Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy to play Dr. Stephen Strange.

Tom Hardy just starred in "Locke," a drama directed by Steven Knight, and recently wrapped up filming for "Child 44" and "Mad Max: Fury Road." Deadline reports that Tom Hardy's role as the villain Bain in the "The Dark Knight Rises" brings him closer to becoming a major star compared to Benedict Cumberbatch.

Benedict Cumberbatch, on the other hand, is no stranger to portraying the villain character in movies. Not only did he give voice to the fire-breathing dragon Smaug in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," he also played the villain Khan in "Star Trek Into Darkness." He also starred as the slick-looking, dark-haired gentleman detective Sherlock Holmes in the TV series "Sherlock." Cumberbatch according to IMDb, stands stands six feet tall a little closer to Dr. Strange's character who, according to tripod, stands 6' 2. Cumberbatch has naturally auburn hair compared to Dr. Strange's black with white streaks. However, fans already had a glimpse of how natural a dark hair looks on Cumberbatch when he played detective Sherlock Holmes. Benedict Cumberbatch would make a great "Dr. Strange," according to Geektyrant.

Dr. Stephen Strange, or "Dr. Strange," has been around since the 1960s at Marvel Comics headquarters. The character was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1963 as a neurosurgeon turned Sorcerer Supreme and Earth's protector against magical and mystical threats.

Both Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch are talented actors and each has their own qualities to contribute to the role of Dr. Strange. Regardless of who gets the role, Twitter fans are excited just hearing these rumours. Below are their Twitter posts.
