Draw Something: The Fastest Growing Mobile Game
Latest figures show that the game, Draw Something is one of the most popular mobile games throughout the world. This game has already passed the 50 million download mark thus making it as the "fastest growing" mobile game to date.
Draw Something was a game developed by OMGPOP and was then acquired by Zynga, the social gaming giant. The game was acquired by an estimated amount of US$180 million and an additional US$30 million for employee retention programs last March. After being part of Zynga, the OMGPOP will now focus its efforts in creating new mobile games and continuing their existing projects.
Dan Porter, the CEO of OMGPOP remarked about the deal made with Zynga before stating that "After long discussions with the Zynga team, we came to understand that Zynga's interest was in giving us an amazing platform, in terms of resources and talent, to continue to build different, out-of-the-box social games like Draw Something."
Draw Something is a game that let players draw pictures in order for their opponents to guess the image that they draw. This concept is similar with the board game Pictionary. The game was released less than two months ago but it has generated six billion drawings at a rate of 3,000 drawings per second. This was a big improvement if compared to the initial figures of 3 drawings per second when it was first launched.
Two weeks after Draw Something was released, it already reached 10 million downloads. The game has recently passed the 50 million dollar mark this week which is a big feat considering that it was just launched two months ago.
Zynga released their opinion regarding this matter stating: "We believe it's not only the fastest-growing original mobile game of all time - 50 days to hit 50 million downloads - but one of the fastest growing web sensations that we've seen."
Draw Something is available for iPhone and Android devices. Users can choose from the free version or the premium version that costs around US$0.99. Since its release, Zynga has estimated that at least 6 billion drawings have been created.
