Drunken All Black wing Zac Guildford Attacks 2 at Cook Islands Bar
Spirit has taken control of All Black wing Zac Guildford again over the weekend as he barged drunk, naked and bleeding into a Cook Islands bar and punched two men there.
New Zealander patrons and staff of the Trader Jacks, a beachside bar in Rarotonga, saw Guildford, 22, punch a man who offered him help upon entering the bar at 10 p.m. with a bleeding gash in the forehead on Friday. The rugby player then staggered across the bar and hit Australian Nick Cox, 60, at the back of his head.
Guildford jumped on the stage and tried to cover his groin area upon realising he was naked. When restaurant staff tried to cover him with an apron, he rushed into the kitchen. His friends then came to fetch him leading him through the restaurant's backdoor.
Police came into the bar later. No complaint has been filed against Guildford, who was in Rarotonga to attend the Monday wedding of his friend Jarred McCarthy of the Napier Pirates Rugby Club. Cox said he doesn't plan to sue but said Guildford must solve his personal issue, according to New Zealand Herald.
McCarthy's fiancée, Sam Barlow, said she, her groom and the player were drinking at their villa on Muri Beach before the incident happened. Barlow said Guildford was not drunk when he left them and that his gash in the forehead was caused by a fall in a scooter earlier in the day.
New Zealand Rugby Union general manager Neil Sorensen said they are investigating the incident, according to Sport24. Sorensen said the club wants to help Guildford first than discipline him.
Guildford admitted to his coaches in September he was an alcoholic and promised to control the habit. But a witness at the Trader Jacks, Fiona of Auckland and her two daughters, said Guildford was extremely drunk and it showed in his eyes. Fiona and her daughters were among Cox's birthday guests from New Zealand.
