One of the greatest rivalries in the world of football will yet again be witnessed. AFC Ajax will play against bitter rivals PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Ajax just came from a 4-0 thrashing from Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

De Amsterdammers boss Frank de Boer was disappointed with the result, but picked-up several things to ponder on that could serve them well in the "De Topper."

"We also did very well in terms of playing football. Obviously it could have been better, because we lost the ball unnecessarily at times," De Boer told uefa.com.

"One moment of not paying attention and the ball is in the goal. That is something you know already before the match and that cannot happen."

"We certainly were not better than them, but I thought we played pretty well. I think that at times we showed good game play, despite the pressure and the lack of top form, against a big team like Barcelona. We have shown that we are able to play good football."

While PSV is also a team of good quality, such is not as dominant as Barcelona.

Gaining invaluable experience against a top-caliber team could only help Ajax's cause in overcoming one of their fiercest rivals.

De Boer will be having the luxury of picking who he thinks will serve his purpose better as key players like Siem de Jong and Daley Blind has recovered from their respective injuries.

Meanwhile, PSV manager Phillip Cocu knows the importance of the game as it can help boost the team's morale coming off a 0-2 defeat against Ludogorets.

"It's really a great opportunity for us as we aim to restore pride and look to return to winning ways," Cocu told psv.nl.com.

With PSV still on its rebuilding stage, Cocu is optimistic that the team will continue to improve and realise its full potential.

"This is an opportunity for us to put things right pretty quickly. If we had had a good result against Ludogorets, it would have provided an extra incentive, when we head into Sunday's game. We will now have to dig deep. With a young team, results are bound to be inconsistent. We will do our very best to ensure we will improve. We have to work extra hard and hope the tide may start to turn," he added.

The Red and whites will be without top-defender Karim Rekik and skipper Georginio Wijnaldum.

Elsewhere, Ajax fans were prevented from travelling to Eindhoven because of the cancellation of special train trips due to engineering concerns.

Eindhoven Mayor Rob van Gijzel refused to grant Ajax fans' request to travel using a coach because of the probability of sparking violence.
