Dwayne Johnson is grieving the death of one of his adopted dogs, Brutus, who died on Sept. 28.

Johnson revealed the heartbreaking news about his dog on Tuesday on his Instagram account. He uploaded a photo of himself carrying Brutus, who was asleep.

The actor and his girlfriend Lauren Hashian reportedly had to make the “painful decision” to release Brutus from life support, which Johnson described on Instagram.

“Another reminder we have to live and love as greatly as we can today, because tomorrow is never guaranteed… I held his lil' paw as he was finally at peace,” Johnson captioned the photo. Johnson said Brutus was under the care of The Animal Medical Center in Cooper City at the time of his death.

Brutus’ death was reportedly caused by a mushroom he ate while playing outside the house. The mushroom was lethally toxic, which destroyed Brutus’ liver and immune system.

The 43-year-old actor and former wrestler reminded all pet owners to be “mindful” of mushrooms growing in the areas where their dog plays. “What looks innocent, can be deadly to your lil' family members,” he said in the caption.

In the Instagram picture, Johnson expressed his love for Brutus and said that his memory will be etched in his heart forever. He used the hashtags #RIPBrutus and #WishICouldveSavedYouOneMoreTime.

Brutus was one of the two baby French bulldogs that Johnson adopted during the Labor Day weekend. The other dog is named Hobbs. Johnson saved them from drowning in the pool and later introduced the new additions to his family via Instagram.

Just weeks ago, the “San Andreas” star uploaded a photo of himself and Brutus at an animal hospital. Johnson said Brutus was sick for 72 hours.
