Early Reviews for RIM’s BlackBerry 10
The new Blackberry 10 which is scheduled to be released in Q1 of 2013 will include features of a platform-wide flow interface, new intelligent keyboard and camera application.
The BlackBerry prototype is currently in stage Alpha C and has demonstrated the physical keyboard capabilities of BlackBerry 10. Even in its prototype stage, tech reviewers have managed to get their hands on it.
1. Lockscreen shows notifications for alarms and unread messages on the left and upcoming meetings with date and time. The lockscreen contains direct button to launch camera as well. The lockscreen allows viewing certain information around the screen while keeping other functions locked, quite similar with Peek mode.
2. Homescreen consists of Active Frames or mini applications with overview of information from selected application and launches in full view once tapped. A user can select up to 8 active frames and arranges it in order of most recently used. Only four active frames can be shown on the screen at a time, so scroll down for the other four.
3. Interface of the application list is from right to left with 16 apps on the screen at a time. Additional apps mean new application page list will be added and swiping the same way to view them, similar to iOS and Android interface. The bottom screen includes quick links to phone, search and camera applications.
4. Notification is shown by the Flow concept when swiping up from the bottom of the screen. The current app or screen minimises and shows new notification counts from email, BBMs, texts, and social media feeds.
5. BlackBerry Hub acts as a unified box of everything that deals with multiple email accounts, text messages, BBM, call history, third party messaging, and social network sites. The messages from these accounts can be managed and the Hub will populate which notifications from the source chosen.
6. Cascades which is the new navigation system for quick multitasking within applications.
7. BlackBerry App World gets a makeover with cleaner and more intuitive design. The new App World will offer application downloads as well as music and videos for purchase and downloads too.
8. New keyboard design and keen typing experience.
9. Time Shift feature camera which detects and allows which perfect smile is desired to be selected.
10. The browser has been redesigned and still supports favourite sites which normally requires Flash engine. BlackBerry 10 has built-in support for access Flash built sites.
