A shallow earthquake was felt 117km east-southeast of Melbourne at 7:11pm local time. Some Australians took to Twitter to shout out about the tremor under #melbquake.

A Geoscience Australia spokesman told skynews.com.au the tremor was the largest aftershock recorded following the 5.4 magnitude earthquake that hit the same area in June.

US Geological Service says the earthquake was magnitude 4.5 and recorded at a depth of 10km. The quake epicentre was near the town of Moe, 117 kilometres east-southeast of Melbourne.

The State Emergency Service (SES) received no report of injury or damage related to the quake.

Similar to what happened last month, Aussies turned to Twitter to air thoughts related to the tremor. Some of them did not quite feel the earth move, and they seem to be rather disappointed.

Some of those who felt the recent earthquake noticed the Australian Geoscience website is down again. The same website went down last month after it failed to manage the level of inquiries and very high traffic.
