"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" just hit the big screen at midnight yesterday and it has already earned a huge sum of money.

This goes to show that "Eclipse" is so far the most successful among the Twilight flicks in terms of midnight screenings. Box office tracker Hollywood.com said that the movie has set a new record for highest midnight gross.

According to the film's distributor, Summit Entertainment, "Eclipse" earned more than $30 million from midnight screenings on Wednesday (June 30), with final box-office numbers to be determined once the studio finishes its final count.

The previous Twilight film "New Moon" brought in $26.3 million with midninght screenings in November.

Meanwhile, "Eclipse" has to rake in more than $72.7 million to beat its predecessor in the all-time opening-day-gross category. However, the strong numbers on Wednesday is a good indication that the film would bring in millions more on its opening weekend.
