Eid Declared in Australia: Where to Celebrate in Sydney & Melbourne, Free Parking & More

Australia celebrates Eid on July 28 as the new moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. In addition to the celebration down under, there will be Eid celebrations in Europe and the United States as well. Eid-al-Fitr is the biggest Islamic festival in the world that is celebrated by millions of Muslims all around the world.

In Saudi Arabia, the Eid-al-Fitr moon was seen on Sunday, July 27. The British Muslim Forum Confederation of Sunni Mosques, on the other hand, declared that the festival was to be celebrated on Tuesday, July 29.

The celebration began in Australia as the members of the Muslim community in the country got together at mosques. New South Wales Premier Mike Baird was invited as one of the dignitaries to attend the celebration. Baird said that the government would always stand by Islamic community in the country.

"A friend here in New South Wales, a friend leading the Government. We will always listen to them and always respond to them," Baird said.

Venue & Date

If you want to celebrate the festival with the community, here is a great way to do so. The "Chand Raat Eid Festival" was celebrated in Sydney and Melbourne consecutively. The celebration of "Chand Raat," which means the "Moon Night" in Arabic, was held in the cities on July 27. However, the Eid celebration is going to take place on July 29 from 10 am in Sydney Olympic Park and on August 2 from 12 noon in Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne.

Special Transport

In addition to the regular train and bus service to Sydney Olympic Park, a free bus service will be there between Parramatta Station and Rosehill Gardens in every half an hour.

There will be a free parking facility at the Centre Car Park in Melbourne.
