Elderly Man Mugged in Southwest Sydney After Spate of Violence and Crime in June
News sources say that a 66-year-old man was mugged as he was exiting the train station at Warwick Farm on Monday evening. The robbery comes on the heels of a number of similar incidents in June.
The man was grabbed around the neck and put into a headlock by the assailant and asked to take out his wallet. After snatching the wallet, the attacker ran off pushing the victim on the ground, the Australian reported.
Police have asked eye-witnesses in Sydney's southwest area to assist in the investigation.
A woman who happened to run into the victim after the mugging was also asked to corporate, reports the Herald Sun.
The attack comes after a spate of attacks in the Sydney area in June. On June 10, a Sydney man, 23, was stabbed five times after he refused to hand over his bag to a person approaching him on the street. He was walking along Herring Road, in northwest Sydney. The attacker is believed to have used a knife to stab the victim, who was later taken to the hospital, 9News reported.
In an unrelated incident, a 33-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint in an inner Sydney area on June 9. She was walking on Pyrmont when she was told to hand over her handbag by a man carrying a gun. Police say that two men were involved in the robbery, leaving the woman unharmed, the Telegraph reported.
