'Eleven Minutes' Movie: Selena Gomez, Naya Rivera, or Zoe Saldana -- Which Actress as Samba-dancing 'Maria the Prostitute?' [PHOTOS]
'The Alchemist' Author Paulo Coelho to Produce Own Book's Film Adaptation
A film adaptation of the erotic book "Eleven Minutes" is underway. The movie plans were announced on Facebook by the book's prolific and respected Brazilian author, Paulo Coelho.
The "Eleven Minutes" movie production thrilled many of those who have enjoyed the book. A lot of social media netizens quickly (albeit virtually) raised their hands to audition for the lead role of Brazilian prostitute Maria. Others are wondering which young actress among Hollywood's Latinas should play the role: Selena Gomez, Naya Rivera, and Zoe Saldana are among the first ones to be considered by fans.
The story of 11 Minutes is told off Maria's diary. She's a young woman who left Brazil to make a living as a samba dancer in Switzerland. Through fortune, she wants to humiliate a young love who has broken her heart. Maria somehow winds up as a prostitute, a well-paid one. In her diary, Maria writes her insights and musings on sex, men, relationships, life and love.
Any one among Selena Gomez, Naya Rivera, and Zoe Saldana would make a good Maria. They have the eyes that can speak volumes to men. They're young, and they have Maria's captivating look and sexy, alluring Latina beauty.
Like Anastasia Steele in E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey," Maria has also been introduced to sadomasochism. Maria tackles in her diary the differences among men when it comes to what they want in bed. In the book, eleven minutes refers to Maria's idea on the minimum duration of sex.
Fifty Shades of Grey is often compared to Eleven Minutes by many readers who couldn't fathom the success of E.L. James. A lot of social media comments have raised that Coelho's prose is far more superior than James' in all levels. Coelho's 2003 erotic narrative apparently got some movie offers, too, but Coelho has declined them all.
Paulo Coelho says the Eleven Minutes movie production team is "considering" to cast an unknown actress. He even points out that he might pick someone from Twitter or Facebook.
"Yesterday I opened a movie production company, to produce "11 Minutes" myself (we refused all other offers made by big studios). We are considering to cast an unknown actress, chosen either on Facebook or Twitter, for the main role (Maria)," the 'Alchemist' author announced Wednesday (Sept. 18).
"The 2 male characters are actors already famous," Coelho added. Some fans are guessing someone like Y Tu Mama Tambien's Gael García Bernal was under consideration, too.
If 11 Minutes successfully casts an unknown actress, fans of Selena Gomez, Naya Rivera, and Zoe Saldana would miss a chance to see their idol in a provocative, and truly challenging role. Maria is a wonderfully profound character whose life explorations and insightful confessions to her diary make a fantastic story that can challenge the way a person views sex, true love, and life in general.
