Ellen DeGeneres' wife wants to use her name
Portia de Rossi wants to use her wife Ellen DeGeneres' last name. The 37-year-old actress petitioned the Los Angeles County Superior Court last week to legally change her name to Portia Lee James DeGeneres.
According to reports, the reason for the petition is that she would like to take her spouse's name.
According to People Magazine, the change will not be official until a scheduled hearing on September 23 takes place.
Earlier this week, the Australian actress and Ellen DeGeneres joined the celebration in the US after a judge overturned California's gay marriage ban. De Rossi tweeted:"I am ecstatic that Proposition 8 has been overturned in the state of California. This is an incredibly exciting and historical day and a big step towards equal rights for all."
Portia became engaged to DeGeneres after the talk show host proposed to her with a three-carat pink diamond ring. Portia and Ellen tied the knot back in August 16, 2008 at their home, with 19 guests including their respective mothers. De Rossi is best known for her roles as lawyer Nelle Porter on Ally McBeal and Lindsay Bluth Fünke on Arrested Development.
