Emerson College to Name School of Communications After Anchorman's Ron Burgundy
This is not a joke: Boston's Emerson College will officially name its School of Communications after the famous Anchorman character, Ron Burgundy, on December 4.
Just like a true form of art imitating life, Ron Burgundy, the scotch-swigging, suit-wearing alpha male anchor from the famous comedy flick, Anchorman, will be honored for an entire day by Emerson College. The school will officially name its communications and journalism school "Ron Burgundy School of Communication."
In a pseudo-press release by the school, Emerson has honored Burgundy's "efforts" to pursue hard-hitting news, which of course, led to the amusement of students and the movie's fans. The press release humorously referred to Burgundy as a real person with actual achievements in journalism.
"BOSTON, MA-On Wednesday, December 4, Emerson College will name its School of Communication, for one day only, the "Ron Burgundy School of Communication" in honor of legendary anchorman Ron Burgundy. The KVWN Channel 4 Action News TV star who coined the phrase "You stay classy, San Diego" will share his path to journalism greatness with students during a day-long visit."
Famously portrayed by veteran comedian, Will Ferrell, Ron Burgundy is quite possibly the world's most-loved and celebrated pseudo journalist. With famous lines such as "The human torch was denied a bank loan," and a group of equally-funny news men making up his Channel 4 news team (weather reporter, Brick Tamland played by Steve Carell, on-site reporter Brian Fantana played by Paul Rudd, and sports analyst Champ Kind played by David Koechner), it was not hard for Burgundy to hit worldwide comedic and cult acclaim.
On the school of journalism's name induction on December 4, Emerson college will also receive a visit from Ferrell dressed as Burgundy, which will be followed by an evening screening of 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.'
"I had to pinch myself really hard when I learned that Emerson College was naming its School of Communication for me. It's kind of a big deal," comically said Ferrell's character, Ron Burgundy, in a report by the Boston Magazine.
Anchorman 2 is about to hit theatres in Australia on December 20, and the film's promotion couldn't get any better than this. Great Odin's raven!
