YouTube - the free source of videos for anything on earth - has announced its first ever Music Awards. The gala event will be attended by a bevy of artists including Lady Gaga and Eminem and is expected to be held November 3.

The video sharing site will announce shortlisted nominees for its inaugural YouTube Music Awards on October 17. The Web site will choose the nominees based on the acts who have gained most views over the past year. The winners will be decided by none other than you! YouTube will ask its multi-million users to share, promote and vote their preferred nominee. The show will present winners for six award categories.

The Web site will announce the winners on November 3 at a multi-starred award ceremony which will be streamed live on YouTube. Lady Gaga, Eminem and Arcade Fire will perform at the event which will be directed by Spike Jonze - who is credited with directing a number of hit videos and movies such as "Adaption."

Also present will be YouTube's very own stars Lindsey Stirling, dancer and violinist who came to fame through her YouTube channel, Lindseystomp. The 27-year-old will perform with CDZA, an experimental music collaborative from New York City. "The History Of Lyrics That Aren't Lyrics" CDZA release experimental music every Tuesday and have earned more than 20.5 million views since joining the site in 2011.

Danielle Tiedt, Vice President of YouTube marketing says that they aim to create something special for their viewers and the awards will also be a platform for creating more live videos.

"We're trying to create live videos during the award shows so that the experience becomes more about creating than presenting," said Tiedt, adding, "Music is our bread and butter and our heart and soul here at YouTube. Our main goal is to not just do another award show. We wanted to do something special."

The YouTube Music Awards will last for duration of 90-minutes and will take place at Pier 36 in New York will and will be hosted by American actor Jason Schwartzman. Stay Tuned.
