"Rap God" Eminem took the award for "Artist of the Year" at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards 2013 which were telecasted live via a webcast on Sunday night from New York. The decision was based on the number of views each artist gets along with 60 million YouTube viewers casting their votes to decide the winners.

Eminem performed a live version of his new fastest track ever "Rap God," which was filmed in black and white. The singer garnered praises from his fans on YouTube who were amazed to see him perform the fastest track live, thus dispelling rumours that he has lip-synched on Saturday Night Live, a days before.

"Eminem is the onlyperson who sounds perfect when he sings live," writes Kat Carlile on the YouTube link of his live performance.

"I'M CRYING OH MY GOD HE'S SO PERFECT HE'S TRULY A RAP GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD," wrote another Eminem fan Minkyoung Seong on YouTube.

Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" won YouTube phenomenon and Macklemore and Lewis won YouTube breakthrough. The first ever YouTube music awards were kicked off by the rocking performance of Arcade Fire who unravelled their new song "Afterlife."

Lady Gaga was the next performer who enthralled the audience with her new song "Dope" from "ARTPOP" album. Gaga was dressed in a black leather shirt, a wide black hat, dark-black sunglasses, artificial teeth grills and no pants. The shockingly-good Gaga however gave an emotionally-wrecking performance and even cried during the melancholic song as she played her piano.

The award show was hosted by actor Jason Schwartzman and musician-comedian Reggie Watts. Unlike other music awards like the Grammy's, YouTube's awards were different and the winners were chosen on the basis of "viewership, subscriber, and/or engagement metrics."
