Detroit rapper Eminem and Barbadian singer Rihanna’s collaboration song “Love the Way You Lie” turned five years old on Sunday. Co-written by Eminem with Alexander Grant and Holly Hafermann, the song was the second single from the “8 Mile” star’s seventh studio album titled “Recovery.”

“Love the Way You Lie” was the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 from July 31 to Sept. 18, 2010. It was Eminem’s fourth number one song in the United States while it was Rihanna’s seventh.

Aside from the U.S. charts, “Love the Way You Lie” also performed well in other countries including Australia, Austria and South Korea. The collaboration song was the best-selling song in the United Kingdom in 2010.

Directed by Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video director Joseph Khan, the “Love the Way You Lie” music video stars “Quantum Break” actor Dominic Monaghan and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” star Megan Fox in a violent relationship. It also shows Eminem and Rihanna in front of a burning house.

Eminem has revealed that Rihanna was his first choice to be his collaborator in “Love the Way You Lie,” and the latter has also said she did not hesitate to accept the offer. The two musicians have experienced abuse in real life.

It is said that the lyrics of Eminem’s song “Insane” from his sixth studio album titled “Relapse” hint at how he was sexually abused by his stepfather. On the other hand, Rihanna made headlines prior to the release of “Love the Way You Lie” because of domestic violence involving her and her former boyfriend Chris Brown.

Currently, Rihanna is reportedly dating British Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton. The two, who have yet to confirm their relationship, were spotted leaving 10AK in New York City on Tuesday separately but within minutes of each other, TMZ reported.
