Emmy Awards 2013: ‘Breaking Bad’ Gets the Big, Loses Out on the Expected Two
The penultimate episode of AMC's cult drama series "Breaking Bad" aired Sunday night. It was the Emmy Awards 2013 night, too. "Breaking Bad" won the most prestigious award, Emmy 2013 for the "Outstanding Drama Series."
The series beat the heavy-weights "Homeland," "House of Castle," "Game of Thrones," "Mad Men," "Downtown Abbey" and "Game of Thrones" to win the coveted award of the night.
The "Outstanding Drama Series" win wiped-out a night of disappointment for the cast, director and writers of "Breaking Bad." At the Emmy Awards 2013, the other shinning light for "Breaking Bad" was Anna Gunn.
Anna, who portrays the conflicted wife Skyler of Walter White, won for the outstanding actress in a supporting role in a drama series. It was her first Emmy Win. However, Anna's co-actors Aaron Paul, who plays the character of Jesse Pinkman, and Jonathan Banks, who played Mike Ehrmantraut, lost out to Bobby Cannavale of "Boardwalk Empire" for the outstanding actor in a supporting role in a drama series.
It was a major upset in the outstanding actor in a drama series category. Bryan Cranston, who plays the principal character, Walter White, lost out to Jeff Daniels of "The Newsroom."
The director and writers of "Breaking Bad" also failed to bag the awards at Emmy 2103. "Breaking Bad" writers, George Mastras and Thomas Schnauz, lost out to the writer of "Homeland," Henry Bromell.
Michelle MacLaren of "Breaking Bad" failed to bag the outstanding directing for drama series. He lost out to David Fincher of "House of Cards."
"Breaking Bad" is one of the most critically acclaimed drama series of recent times. Walter White entered the world of illegal crystal meth cooking after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Walt started cooking with Jesse Pinkman, with the sole intention of leaving behind enough money for his family so that they can lead a comfortable life once he is dead. However, Walt soon transformed into the sinister drug-lord, Heisenberg and destroyed many lives.
