The kingpin veteran, Kevin Muscat could not hold back his tears in a farewell gathering organized by officials, members and staff of Melbourne Victory to announce his retirement.

The HeraldSun said the members of the loyal friends and family have outnumbered those who attended the gathering in hopes to get Muscat’s take on controversial issues hounding his exit.

Ron Reed of Herald sun noted that Muscat’s career may have ended in ‘disgrace’, with ‘venomous criticism’ on his games and the eight-match ban for Muscat’s violent tackle last month on Heart player, Adrian Zahra.

The HeraldSun also emphasized that all these issues did not come out during the gathering, adding that the loyal family and friends have created an atmosphere that would allow Muscat to exit without a word about those controversies and would leave with respect intact.

It was attended by Melbourne Victory chairman, Geoff Lord and coach Ernie Merrick, all the club’s players, the office personnel, everyone’s family and his old mates.

The HeraldSun added that the emotional Muscat had said, he had done some soul searching and had felt some regrets over the controversies he was involved in - - some instigated though not premeditated - - like the tackle with Zahra, without mentioning his name.

"I am what I am, " HeraldSun quoted Muscat as saying, also noting that, "I am not Superman."
