Alastair Cook feels that his career has reached its nadir after England lost to Australia in three test matches back to back. Eventually, England lost the Ashes with the defeat in the Perth test on Tuesday Dec. 17 since Australia's lead in the series is now technically unbeatable.

The captain of the England cricket team has, however, disagreed that his team was showing signs of terminal decline. Sport24 reported that the visitors were considered as favorites when they reached Australia to play to the Ashes after defeating Michael Clarke's team convincingly at home.

Many experts like Shane Warne felt that England had underestimated Australia's potential when they arrived. For obvious reasons, Cook was asked at the presentation ceremony of the Perth test whether the Australian cricket team surprised him. He promptly replied that it had not. He said England was well aware that they were going to play against a formidable opposition.

This was the first time Cook had to suffer a series defeat as a captain. He said he was aware that there would be a 'detailed autopsy' of his team's performance in Australia. He accepted the major English cricketers were not at their best forms so far. It would be premature to come to any conclusion about their abilities yet, he affirmed.

Meanwhile, Australian Veteran Glenn McGrath felt that Australia has every possibility to make it 5-0 in the series. The Guardian reported that McGrath believes that the ultimate reward for an Australian cricketer is to win in the Ashes. The victory in the present Ashes series is definitely special, he added. McGrath felt that the way Australia bounced back after losing the previous series against England is outstanding.

England Coach Andy Flower has declined to make a commitment on his role beyond the present Ashes series. Even though Cook has defended his coach and wants him to continue as the coach of the England cricket team, Flower reserves his decision for the time being.
