Manchester City FC painted the town blue as they ripped bitter rivals Manchester United apart with a 4-1 win in the first Manchester Derby of the English Premier League.

City striker Sergio Aguero registered the first goal after playmaker Samir Nasri laid-off the ball to an overlapping Alexander Kolarov who provided the cross that led to the left-footed Aguero strike inside the box.

Yaya Toure, who scored the second goal, was at the right place and at the right time after teammate Alvaro Negredo headed the goal towards the left-hand corner from a Nasri cross, which seemed to be heading wide until Toure stuck out his left leg to pound the ball into the net.

Aguero scored again at the 47-minute mark to make it 3-0.

Finally, it was Nasri's turn to shine, who was involved in the three previous goals, as Jesus Navas delivered a beautiful cross from the right flank into the left-hand side of the of the goal, where the French international met the ball with a right-footed strike past United keeper David De Gea.

Wayne Rooney scored a consolation goal for United, to make it 4-1.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini did not expect such a result against a United side that has very much quality, but credits his players for playing superbly especially on the defensive end.

"It was a very important result. Normally you don't expect to win 4-1 to Manchester United but the most important thing is the way we played and I'm very happy," Pellegrini told premierleague.com.

"Normally, derbies are more equal but today we had a very good day and that allowed us to have the superiority. Maybe [United] couldn't play better because we played very well. We had good possession, we tried from the beginning to make space and we did it. I also think that in defence we played well, we didn't give them space to do damage."

"I would be very happy if we win all the games 4-1, we wouldn't need to improve! But I think we must improve every day. Not every game is the same, we don't have the same day. We are just starting another style, another way to play, and I hope we will improve."
