"The Equalizer" starring Denzel Washington, Chloë Grace Moretz, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo has bumped the reigning film "The Maze Runner" off the top spot in the Sept. 26-28, 2014 weekend box office. According to the Box Office Mojo, "The Equalizer" earned $34,137,828 (weekend gross), while "The Maze Runner" earned $17,437,020. Read on to learn more about it.

Box Office Mojo also reports that the $34,137,828 earned by "The Equalizer" on its opening weekend from Sept. 26-28, 2014 is just the domestic total in the U.S. For its worldwide total, it has already earned $51,937,828. Its foreign total is $17,800,000. It is reportedly the fourth film to earn the highest September debut in the movie industry. The top 3 films with the biggest September debut ever are "Hotel Transylvania" (Top 1 = $42,522,194), "Insidious Chapter 2" (Top 2 = $40,272,103) and "Sweet Home Alabama" (Top 3 = $35,648,740).

"The Equalizer" was just released in U.S. theatres last Friday, Sept. 26, 2014. It is directed by Antoine Fuqua. Aside from starring in the film, Washington also produced it along with Alex Siskin, Steve Tisch, Jason Blumenthal, Michael Sloan, Tony Eldridge, Mace Neufeld and Todd Black.

"The Equalizer" also stars Marton Csokas (Teddy), David Harbour (Masters), Haley Bennett (Mandy), David Meunier (Slavi), Alex Veadov (Tevi), Vladimir Kulich (Vladimir Pushkin) and Johnny Skourtis (Ralphie).

The other films that made it to the Top 5 list of box office hits over the weekend of Sept. 26-28, 2014 are "The Boxtrolls" which earned $17,275,239 (Top 3), "This is Where I Leave You" which earned $6,894,340 (Top 4) and "Dolphin Tale 2" which earned $4,788,153 (Top 5).

The rest of the movies that round up the list of the Top 10 films that ruled the box office weekend of Sept. 26-28, 2014 are "No Good Deed" (2014) ($4,509,127 - Top 6), "A Walk Among the Tombstones" ($4,192,785 - Top 7), "Guardians of the Galaxy" ($3,765,941 - Top 8), "Let's Be Cops" ($1,516,021 - Top 9) and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (2014) ($1,450,177 - Top 10).
