Eugenie Bouchard Fires Warning To Serena Williams; She Wants No.1 Ranking
Rising star Genie Bouchard is not contented with her current ranking on the WTA Tour. The Canadian darling wants the top of the world and she understands that she needs to beat Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and the other elite netters in achieving her 'big dream.'
The 20-year old Bouchard did not mince any word in expressing her desire to become the world's no.1 player on the WTA Tour. Coming off a runner-up finish at the Wimbledon Open, Bouchard is indeed as one of the fast rising star in women's play.
"My goal is not to (just) be seventh in the world. I have big dreams," Bouchard in an interview with Montreal Gazette.
Bouchard, who reached at least the semifinal round at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon Open this year, is excited to play in front of her countryman at the upcoming big tournament in Montreal.
"It makes it more exciting for me. And I have more family and friends who can come visit as well. You know, I always feel the support from my country and my city. So to be able to play in front of them will be very exciting," Bouchard added.
Duking Out With Williams, Sharapova
Bouchard understands that she needs to beat the bests if she wants to achieve her goal. Williams, who remains the top-ranked female netter in the world, has a surprisingly subpar run at the Wimbledon Open, but many expected her to come out strong at the US Open championships where she's the reigning two-time champion.
Another big name Bouchard has to topple is Sharapova, who looks to better her semis appearance last year. The Canadian has been drawing comparison from Russian star ever since she started her tennis career. In fact, Bouchard provided a test to Sharapova in the semis of the French Open before losing to her idol in three hard-fought sets.
Bright Future for Canada's Star
Many analysts hailed Bouchard as the future of women's tennis with Williams, Sharapova and other top stars nearing retirement. Her still developing game along with her charismatic appeal could easily make her the face of women's tennis in the coming years. Then again, Bouchard stressed of her big dream. Without a doubt that includes the world's no.1 ranking and more Grand Slams crowns.
