European Parliament Elections to Cast Dog Vote?
Who would have thought that a dog can now cast vote on the prestigious Parliament elections?
Apparently, this was what happened when an 8-year-old Rottweiler named Zeus got a poll card to vote for the upcoming May 22 elections. The invitation contained the dog's electoral register number. It also said the dog can cast his vote from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Albany Community Resource Center.
The flabbergasted family could not contain their mixed emotions on the presence of the dog's voting card. The dog owner Russel Hoyle could only hope that Zeus will not vote on Tory as he and his wife are left speculating to whom will the dog choose during the election day.
In a news report from Mirror, Hoyle said, "I just think it is totally hilarious and I know they'll expect me to get in touch and flag up that there's an issue, but I'm not going to, I'm going to take him down to cast his vote."
The hilarious invitation to vote resulted when a man who conducted an earlier census did not get the joke that the 45-year-old security guard said.
When asked who lived in their home address at Cheshire Road, Norton, Stockton-on-Tees, East England, Hoyle replied, "There is myself and my wife. My son is not old enough to vote. We have got Zeus living here as well and he is 63 in dog years."
So just imagine the family's surprise when they received three letters dropped in their letter box, "I did a double take when the polling card came through with three names on it because my son is only 17 and I knew it could not be him," Russel said.
A retired security guard, the dog used to work with Russel in delicate situations. The man-dog tandem had many successful accomplished guarding works while on service.
But while this giant yet gentle canine is happily relaxing at his owner's home and contentedly watching the world around him go by, he still have the European Parliament elections to look forward to.
