Ex-NBA All Star Arrested In Arizona For Massive ID Theft, Credit Card Scam Operation
A former NBA All-Star was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 28, 2015. In an exclusive report by TMZ Sports, former Golden State Warrior Chris Gatling was taken by cops for being involved in a massive ID theft and illegal credit card operation. The police say that he was the mastermind behind the criminal activities.
Reportedly, one of Gatling’s victim’s is a woman whom he met on a dating website. The woman allegedly owns a fitness studio and had $90,000 swindled from her by Gatling. Police reports state that Gatling set up online businesses to collect the credit card information of individuals. As soon as he acquired the credit card numbers, he would bring them to the fitness studio then convince the owner to run the cards for different dollar sums. According to the woman, Gatling then requested her to shell out 90 per cent of the total in cash. The lady owner thought that all these were legal. This means that whenever Gatling ran a credit card charge on the woman’s credit card machine, the latter would earn 10 per cent, based on the same TMZ Sports report.
Police officers learned about the scam and arrested Gatling, charging him with fraud, forgery and aggravated identity theft. ABC15 revealed that he was arrested on Thursday while meeting with his probation officer. He was also convicted with forgery theft a couple of years ago.
Bleacher Report wrote that the Golden State Warriors drafted Gatling during the 1991 NBA Draft in the first round. He played for the Warriors, Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers. Throughout his career, Gatling averaged 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds. He was selected in the All-Star team in the 1996-1997 NBA Season after increasing his stats to 19.1 points per game while playing for the Mavericks.
