"The Bourne Legacy" stood little chance in beating Sylvester Stallone's "Expendables 2."

Sylvester Stallone and his co-stars blast to the top of box office with their movie, "Expendables 2." With a sum of 11 action stars in the film, including the likes of Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Arnold Schwarzenegger, fans of 80's and 90's action will definitely flock in movie theaters.

The sequel raked an impressive $28.8 million during its debut, the digits look promising even if its still 17% lower than the $34.8 million from the first movie.

In an iconic moment, it also marks the first time that Chuck Norris has ever topped the movie charts. The audience reaction to the movie also looks affecting. So far it received an A- score from CinemaScore.

The positive feedbacks also come from professional reviewers saying that it is better than the first one.

"The sequel is both fleet footed and engaging enough to captivate audiences with more than just nonstop action," Justin Lowe from The Hollywood Reporter said.

And even if it garnered a marvelous opening, Lions Gate executive vice president for distribution, David Spitz said that they expect the fanbase and word of mouth will help the movie perform well on the box office in the long run.

"We think we'll have a great run. Older audiences don't rush out to the cinema on opening weekend," Spitz said.

"The Bourne Legacy" drops on the number two spot after it earned $69.6 million after ten days. Quite a letdown after Matt Damon's "The Bourne Ultimatum" earned $69.3 million on its opening weekend in 2007.

Another mention goes to "The Dark Knight Rises" after it passed the $400 million mark. The movie now earns $409.9 million in total and has passed the highly successful "Hunger Games."
