Fake Facebook Profile Used to Lure Teenage Girl to Her Death, Teens Wary of Online Contacts
Nichole Cable is like any other teenage girl who enjoys chatting with her friends and constantly updating her social media networks particularly Facebook. Cable was allegedly killed by someone who used fake profile on Facebook to lure her away from home. The suspect's plan was to kidnap her then turn her over to the authorities in the hopes of becoming a here.
Apparently the bizarre plan backfired on the suspect according to state police. Rumors and speculation continue to circulate in social media after the disappearance of Nichole Cable and the arrest of a 20-year old acquaintance.
Close friends of Cable in Old Town High School have decided to deactivate their Facebook account. Ashley Pattershall said that after learning about what happened to her friend, her other friends have chosen to delete their accounts in fear of getting the same fate.
The suspect is 20-year old Kyle Dube from Orono. Dube created Facebook account under the name of a student from another school. The suspect used his fake account to convince Cable to go out of their house in Glenburn.
Cable was then kidnapped and eventually killed on May 12. Authorities found her body in a wooded area a week after her disappearance.
Witnesses say Dube told them about wearing a disguise to abduct the girl. He would return and remove his disguise later to "save the day." His plan became impossible because Dube found her already dead at the back of his vehicle. Cable was bound and gagged in duct tape.
Police said Dube told his brother and girlfriend where he threw Cable's body. Dube was arrested and charged for abduction and murder last Wednesday.
The role of social media in the disappearance and death of Nichole Cable is an eye opener for students. Most of them have become wary of their online contacts particularly Facebook "friends".
