'Fantastic Beasts 2': Credence on a self discovery journey
“Fantastic Beats: The Crimes of Grindelwald” will continue the journey of Credence (Ezra Miller), who was revealed to be an Obscurial. In a recent interview, Miller spoke about the journey of his character and about what can be expected in his storyline in the sequel.
In an interview with Collider, Miller teased that the upcoming film will be about identity for his character. Credence will be on a journey of self-discovery. He became self aware in the previous movie that he was an Obscurial. This knowledge makes him free, but at the same time there will be some burdens he will have to face with the kind of parasitical magic inside him.
Credence will have a burning desire to know more about himself. He will join a circus, the Circus Arcanus, where he will meet other people who have different abilities. Miller teased that his character’s relationship with these people will be “complicated,” so it appears that he may not have many friends here either.
The one possible friend that Credence can have in the film will be Tina (Katherine Waterston). The two characters were bonding in the first film, but they didn’t get a lot of time to really become friends. Miller teased that the possibility of building on that relationship in the upcoming film.
Miller also teased the changes in the personality of his character. Credence has had a pitiful life so far. He has been abused and ill-treated by both wizards and people with no magic. Miller teased that every person his character meets in the sequel, Credence will analyse that person’s intent and integrity.
There will also be some physical changes in the character. Credence will get a new hairstyle. Miller chose not to elaborate on this point because he didn’t want to “leak” any crucial information.
